I think the biggest drain on retirement money is spending money on cars and pick ups. I believe it is like taking money and flushing it down the toilet. All a person needs is 4 wheels with a motor to get them reliably from one place to another. Yet instead of spending $15,000 to do it, they spend $25,000 to up to $40,000 for a fancy pick up!!
For me, I took the $10,000 up and kept it in my pocket. I figured, better for the money to be in my pocket rather than a car dealer’s pocket.
I suggest (and nobody listens to me), that you only buy what you can pay cash for. If it is only $10,000, then that is what you spend. But the american public is so tuned in to “it is only $350 a month” and then they buy the $20,000 car instead of the $10,000 car.
There are those of us in this countries that have followed these principles and have a lot of cash in our accounts. those who don’t follow conservative principles, generally don’t. Think about it.
